The Coop

Capitane Coop is a music cooperative.
It was born from a simple idea: the tools used to produce, support and circulate music can belong to the people who use them.

A company whose users are its owners

To the artists.
To the people working in music, sound and image.
And to those who choose to support their work.

A structure designed to pool resources, share skills and collectively build the conditions needed for independent creation.

In an industry where production, distribution and access to audiences are increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few multinational groups, we want to take back part of those means together.

One ecosystem, not a list of activities

Record music.
Manufacture records.
Distribute them.
Support careers.
Produce images.
Organise concerts.
Create physical and digital spaces for people to meet.
Keep music moving.

Not as a collection of separate activities, but as different parts of one self-managed ecosystem.

To do this, Capitane Coop develops its own tools: labels, a live and management division, a creative agency, a shop — and soon a digital home.

Who owns the tools

The real question goes beyond the tools themselves.
It is also about who owns them, who decides how they evolve, and how the value they generate can be reinvested in the people who make music possible.

At Capitane, artists, workers and music lovers become cooperative members and take an active role in both the control and the responsibility of production.

What we believe

We believe music is work.
That culture can be organised differently.
That proximity has value.
And that autonomy, mutual support, emancipation, ecology, quality and social connection are not luxuries, but necessities.

The artists behind the Coop

Capitane was built by artists who needed to develop their own tools for production and distribution.
Today, artistic projects still give the Coop its direction, its purpose and its energy.

Make beautiful things.
Keep precarity at bay.
Create connection.
Build a music ecosystem that is more supportive, fairer and more sustainable.
